About the project
The story behind 72 Hours and why this website exists.
My name is Joao Rodrigues and I created 72 Hours.
It all started with the Iberian blackout of 2025. That day, I realised I was completely unprepared. I had nothing at home for my family. No stored water, no working torches, no plan. Nothing.
And while I waited for the power to come back, I kept thinking: what if instead of a few hours it had been a few days?
I started preparing straight away. I researched, bought what was needed, got organised. I became a mini "prepper". Not the bunker-and-freeze-dried-food-for-20-years kind, but someone who wants to have the basics covered to protect their family through a few days of crisis.
This website is the result of all that. I compiled here the things I have at home, the research I did, the calculators I built to make decisions (how much water do I need? which generator makes sense?) and the information that seemed most useful and practical for anyone living in Portugal.
I am not a civil protection specialist, nor a healthcare professional. I am someone who decided they did not want to be caught off guard again.
Something wrong?
If you find anything incorrect, outdated, or that could be improved, or if you have a suggestion (like "this generator is better than that one" or "you should cover topic X"), send an email to 72horaspt@gmail.com.
This project is made with the goal of helping, and all help is welcome.
