Privacy and cookie policy
What data we collect, how we use cookies, and what your rights are.
Last updated: 12 July 2026.
Who we are
72 Hours (72horas.pt) is a personal emergency-preparedness information project created and maintained by João Rodrigues. The data controller for the processing described in this policy can be reached at info@72horas.pt.
What data we collect
The site has no user accounts and no forms that collect personal data. The only data processed results from browsing:
- Usage data (analytics) — pages visited, session duration, device type, browser and country of origin, collected via Google Analytics and PostHog (see below).
- Advertising data — when ads are shown, Google and its partners may collect data through advertising cookies (see "Advertising — Google AdSense").
- Data stored on your device — your progress in the interactive tools (checklists, quiz, calculators) is stored in your browser's
localStorageand is never sent to our servers.
Analytics
We use two tools to understand which pages are most useful and improve the content:
Google Analytics 4 — a service by Google Ireland Ltd. that uses cookies to measure visits and interactions. The data is aggregated and does not allow us to identify you. It is only activated after you give consent. More information in the Google privacy policy.
PostHog — an analytics platform hosted in the European Union (eu.posthog.com). It collects aggregated browsing data (pages visited, session duration, country of origin) without building identifiable visitor profiles.
Advertising — Google AdSense
This site shows ads through Google AdSense, an advertising service by Google. To serve ads, Google and its certified partners use third-party advertising cookies, which may record your visits to this and other websites in order to show more relevant ads (personalised advertising).
- Google uses cookies (such as the DoubleClick cookie) to serve ads based on previous visits to this and other websites.
- Visitors in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom only receive personalised ads if they give consent through the consent message shown on their first visit. Without consent, non-personalised ads may be shown.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings or at aboutads.info/choices.
- More information about how Google uses data: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. This site uses:
- Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) — measure visits and site usage. Only activated with your consent.
- Advertising cookies (Google AdSense and partners) — used to serve and measure ads and, with your consent, to personalise advertising.
- Local storage (
localStorage) — technically not a cookie; it stores your preferences (light/dark theme) and your progress in the interactive tools, exclusively on your device.
Managing cookies: you can change or withdraw your consent through the site's consent message, and you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge). Blocking cookies does not prevent you from using the site.
Consent
On your first visit from the European Economic Area, a consent message is shown (a Google-certified consent management platform). Analytics and personalised advertising cookies are only used after consent is given, via Google Consent Mode. You can change your choice at any time.
Legal basis and your rights
The processing of analytics and advertising data is based on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify and erase your data, to restrict or object to processing, and to data portability. As the site does not store identifiable personal data on its own systems, these rights are mostly exercised with Google (through the links above). For any question, contact info@72horas.pt. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority (in Portugal, the CNPD).
Retention
Analytics data is retained for the periods defined by the respective platforms (Google Analytics: up to 14 months; PostHog: aggregated data). Data in localStorage remains on your device until you delete it.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated to reflect changes to the site or to legislation. The date of the last update is shown at the top of the page.
